Dear Readers:
We’ve reached a point in the four-book odyssey of 2084 Quartet where I’ve published all that I have written of it so far. That is, the first two books, Signifier/ and /Signified. I hope you’ve enjoyed reading them. I hope that you can recommend them to your friends to read as well.
Currently, I’m finishing up a full draft of the third book in the quartet, namely, The Cure of All. As this type of writing is by no means a precise undertaking, I’ve no clear idea of when (or how) this next book will become available to readers. I’ll certainly be doing my best to launch it into the world as soon as I’m satisfied with its quality.
In the meantime, let me reiterate what these sociological sci-fi novels are all about.
2084 Quartet is a tetralogy—a series of four novels. They are:
Book 1: Signifier/
Book 2: /Signified
Book 3: The Cure of All
Book 4: White Nights and Yellow Laughter
Each book in the series features strong female main characters, the machinations of raw political and corporate power, the deceit of espionage, and the terrifying violence of postmodern warfare.
For my creation of a near-future society, I’ve invented a good deal of new terminology and language—for which I supply a Glossary—as well as incorporated the technological advances likely to take place over the next sixty to eighty years. Essential to my storytelling are probable developments in computer and communications networks, weaponry from underwater to outer space, the brain-machine interface of cyborgs, and, in particular, nanotechnology.
In his 1948 novel, 1984, George Orwell imagines the societal disasters that might occur if Stalinist dictatorships were to take control of the world. In hindsight, I think it safe to say that Orwell got it wrong with respect to the future political threat to humanity. It is not communism that currently menaces the world, but neoliberal corporate capitalism—a regime predicated on Minority Rule. I think it is essential to unmask this destructive and anti-democratic force before it’s too late. 2084 Quartet takes a shot at excoriating current-day power.
A tall and likely quixotic order, to be sure. But what ya gonna do?
P.S.
Let me remind you as well, please, to take a look at and subscribe to my other Substack newsletter, Rant Against the Regime at:
My two Substacks go hand-in-hand.
Rant Against the Regime explains and uses cultural theories to analyze our social moment by taking a look at cultural productions such as movies, politics, current events, literature, media, social issues/practices/beliefs of every stripe, education, money, language, sports, advertising, technology—and so on.
2084 Quartet is an example of such a cultural production. More than that, these four novels are a Rant against the Regime.
